Home at last
November 2, 2009 Great to be home after more than a month of traveling. The road trip was fantastic, met many wonderful folks who love literature and even fans of OH! and other Shimoda works. Had some great conversations at events, restaurants, bars, and even a golf course or two. The LitCrawl event, which is the last event of San Francisco's awesomely cool, week-long LitQuake, found me and seven other writers, Wendy Tokunaga for one, at Modern Times Books. The crowd was standing room only, overflowing out of the reading space into the aisles. Each author had only a few mintues to dazzle the crowd. And a very appreciative crowd it was, especially for Josh Bizell's hilarious reading of an email exchange with his editor over a certain lurid passage. A couple days later I read with Liza Dalby (Hidden Buddhas) at Capitola. A smallish but enthusiatic crowd enjoyed the Japanese-themed evening. Liza also presented her haute couture collecion "created" by one of her fictional characters. Real marketing genius I think! Look for OH! The Fragrance soon. The event at the University of Hawaii-Manoa English Department colloquim series with Tom Gammarino, fellow Chin Music Press author, had about a nice crowd of lit lovers. Lots of humor/laughs and great questions. Tom's book, Big in Japan is brilliant and bound to get a ton of buzz. More about it later. All in all a very successful tour, with lit and social events keeping me moving. Book tours aren't just about the book sales but about building a fan base and making contacts. I'm looking forward to a relaxing couple of months, just writing for the most part. And more blogging... © 2013 |
