Tour debrief
July 2, 2009

The book tour, at least this leg, ended in Seattle at the Panama Cafe, a wonderful Japanese-style tea house in the International District. Sponsored by Kinokuniya Bookstore, the discussion was lively.

After four and a half weeks, nearly 200 books signed, 13 flights, 10 events, 9 cities, several hotel rooms and friends/family sofa/beds, it's nice to back on Kaua'i, to my own bed and routine. So was the tour worthwhile? Yes, although just from the number of books sold directly at the events, the costs weren't completely covered. But there's more to it than just those numbers.

Getting the book into the bookstores is important, the sales continue after the event. The publicity from the events gets the book some attention. Even if a reader didn't come to the event, he or she might have seen something about it. It's also good as a writer to interact with readers. I find it amazing how many gracious, curious, and just plain nice people are out there. It's also especially cool to hear from readers of my previous novels coming back for more.

Thanks to all the Chin Music Press folks for planning the tour and publicity. Also thanks to them for great times in Seattle.

The next events will be in Hawaii, and then I'm back on the road in October in So. California and possibly San Francisco. Back to writing in the meantime.

Nice reading. Who was that older man asking all the interesting questions?
